Have you ever wondered how Victoria's Secret came to be? Several years ago a man was shopping for lingerie for his wife in a California department store. He was apparently quite embarrassed by the experience and as a result he came up with idea of a lingerie store where men would have a comfortable, more discreet shopping experience. The interior was a Victorian design with rich, wooden paneled walls, simple organized displays with a catering and helpful staff. Have you ever wondered who Victoria was? The store was actually named after Queen Victoria who was notorious for being a prude. With all this in mind, he opened the very first Victoria's Secret located in Palo Alto, California in 1977.
Years have passed and Victoria's Secret is still going strong and there is even an annual fashion show each year. We have all seen the commercials with the tall, stunning women with perfect bodies modeling various panties, bras and lingerie. I have nothing against Victoria's Secret models but what about the other 90% of the female population who are not blessed with super long legs, small waists and a perfect set of breasts. What are are they to do? Are they exempt from shopping at one of the most popular lingerie stores on the planet? Absolutely not! Fortunately, Victoria's Secret offers quite a selection of merchandise that any woman can wear.
Even if you are not a size 0, you still may be able to fit into the lingerie. Some pieces do go up to XL which is basically 16-18 and they have comfy flannel pajamas and loungewear in these sizes too. This is nice to know for those of us who assumed we could never fit into anything sold in this store. Also, they do have some beautiful bras available for purchase which go up to size 40 DD. They do have a nice selection of XL size 16-18 panties as well. Victoria's secret also carries bathing suits and there is a variety of bathing suits (tops and full piece) that will fit up to DD 16-18. It seems as though normal, average sized women really do have some options at Victoria's Secret!
Did you know Victoria's Secret carries a fabulous selection of great quality shoes? Thank goodness most women have no problem fitting into a great pair of shoes! The store carries brands such as Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden and Sketchers. From heels to sandals and even boots and sneakers, you are sure to find a pair or a few that you love. The prices are pretty decent especially if you take advantage of the seasonal footwear sales.
For anyone who does not know, Victoria's Secret also carries some stunning perfumes and fragrance mists which have matching lotions and powders. Many of the scents are extremely popular and comparable to leading department store brands. Very Sexy, VS Fantasies and Incredible are just a few. During the holidays they offer several different fragrance gift sets which make perfect Christmas gifts. They carry make up and skin care items too.
For late teen and college girls, the sub-brand Victoria's Secret Pink which has more of a fun and flirty look was founded in 2004. It includes underwear, sleep wear, loungewear, fragrances, etc. In 2011, the line partnered with 32 National football League teams and now sells apparel bearing NFL team logos and players names. As you can imagine, this line has become quite popular.
All in all, Victoria's Secret is a good store with great quality merchandise, many of which do fit the average woman! The prices can be a bit on the high side at Victoria's Secret but luckily, Victoria's Secret has great sales throughout the year especially during the holidays. If you are one of those who prefer to shop online, their website is easy to navigate which makes for a great shopping experience.
