Our Armed Services Women And Men Earn Their Degrees Through Online College Degree Programs While Serving Their Country

There’s a bit of military life that many civilians don’t know. As it happens, those serving our country are some of the biggest users of online education in the U.S. They have good reason for it, too.

Many members of the military worry about adjusting to civilian life after active duty. They may be able to apply the skills they have gained while serving their country to a new job, but they also know that’s not always the case. On the other hand, discharged soldiers can use their training to complete a college degree program. That could put them on the path to a fulfilling career.

In fact, there’s an interesting new trend emerging out of all this. Former soldiers who are attending campus-based or online colleges ease their transition by pursuing a degree that the military would find highly desirable. Then they apply to a continued military career as often as not with a better position, rank and pay. For example, individuals who choose to major in management may increase their chances of success if they decide to re-enlist, and may subsequently be able to gain promotions quickly.

Another thing this online education process has been doing for our soldiers is it helps them decide just what they will do when the leave the Armed Services. By sampling various courses they may not be too far into the degree track they finally settle on, but they will have had the experience to fall back on as they will have tried and tested the course load first before committing. Besides, some of the courses they did take could end up as side electives needed to fulfill that program.

As some might know, the GI Bill has also been revamped since September 11. The Post-9/11 GI Bill is designed to help former soldiers enhance their educational qualifications without worrying how to pay the bills. In turn, this is encouraging soldiers to be all that they can be, to borrow an old Army promotion. The Post 9/11 GI Bill even gives a limited amount of cash for living expenses, thus helping a soldier who has a spouse and children to support.

There are those who have gone so far as say this program has helped the returning soldier’s domestic life. Their children are seeing their parents not only serving their country overseas, but educating themselves when they get home. On top of it, thanks to the 9/11 Bill they are clearly being directly rewarded for these efforts.

The thing is this entire program is creating an incredible number of benefits for the soldiers themselves, their families and the country. When it’s finally time to leave the Armed Services, these former soldiers are more confident in their own abilities and can earn a decent check to boot.

With those kind of benefits and the availability of military education benefits options, it’s no wonder many soldiers are taking courses through online college degree programs wherever they are stationed. These same courses are leading them to their own accredited degrees, ensuring a brighter future.
