Claims that the Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex knee replacement system as defective have been increasing as evident by the increasing number of Zimmer knee replacement lawsuits being filed. This knee replacement device was introduced in 2003 as a synthetic device that caps the thigh bone connecting the tibia at the knee. Most knee replacement devices use cement in order to attach it in the body where as Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex prides itself that they are unlike traditional knee implants because they do not require cement in attaching and they’re made of porous fiber metal and a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy. Then, this device has around 150,000 sold in the market.
When the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons presented a data showing that around 36% of zimmer knee replacement patients reported experiencing problems with their knee surgery because it’s loosening, good expectations from this product changed. In fact, it has also been found out that pains can be felt despite only using the implant for two years due to loosening. Further studies have found that the problem was caused by how the component of the device prevents it from fusing to the bone. In fact, according to the food and drug Administration, there are already 114 reported cases of complications caused by this Zimmer device.
